Start with what must be true when the conversation ends

“I want to speak better” is not an outcome. “I need to change my train ticket to Friday” is. Write the result in your strongest language first. Now identify the two or three facts the other person needs from you.

Build a tiny conversation tree

    Your opening: one clear sentence that explains why you are there.

    Likely question one: the detail almost everyone will ask next.

    Likely question two: price, time, preference, reason or confirmation.

    A problem branch: the thing is unavailable, misunderstood or not allowed.

Rehearse the awkward version too

Do one easy run, then deliberately change a reply. Ask an AI companion or practice partner not to follow the script exactly. Should I memorise a script?

Memorise the purpose, key facts and recovery language. A full script often collapses as soon as the other person answers differently.

What if I understand nothing?

Say that clearly, ask for slower speech or another form of communication, and prioritise safety over forcing the conversation to continue.
